Windswept links fairway running toward the dunes and the Firth of Clyde

Ayrshire Coast · Established 1897

Golf as the
sea intended

A true out-and-back links cut into the dunes above the Firth of Clyde. No shelter, no tricks — only honest golf and whatever the sea sends in.

Not manicured — weathered

For more than a century the Strand has been left mostly to its own devices. The fairways run where the land falls. The bunkers are where the wind put them. We mow it, we revet it, and otherwise we leave it well alone.

I — The Links

Eighteen holes,
one ridge, no let-up.

The front nine pushes out along the shore into the prevailing south-westerly. The turn drops you behind the dunes for shelter you will not get again. The back nine brings you home on the wind — which is exactly when the trouble starts.

II — The Setting

Between the dunes and the Firth, with the hills of Arran on the skyline and nothing between you and the weather but a turned-up collar.

“A links you have to think your way around backwards.”

The Strand House

Come in from the weather.

A low stone clubhouse built to take a gale, with a fire that has not gone out since November and a window seat that looks straight down the eighteenth. One menu, written each morning — Ayrshire beef, day-boat fish off Dunure, and a dram list that takes the room seriously.

Common questions

How much is a round at Carrick Strand Links?

Green fees run from £95 for a winter round to £155 in high summer (June to August). Shoulder-season rounds are £120, and twilight golf after 16:00 starts from £70.

Can visitors and non-members play?

Yes. Visitor tee times are available seven days a week, subject to member priority before 09:00 at weekends. Book by calling the pro shop on 01292 555 010 or emailing tee@carrickstrand.golf.

Is there a dress code, and do I need a handicap?

Yes to both. Tailored golf wear is required on the course and a smart-casual standard applies in the Strand House. We ask visitors to hold a recognised handicap of 28 or lower for men and 36 or lower for women, with a current certificate.

Where are you and how do I get there?

We are at Strand Road, Dunure, near Ayr on the Ayrshire coast, postcode KA7 4LX. It is about a 50-minute drive from Glasgow and 20 minutes from Prestwick Airport, with parking at the clubhouse.

How do I book a tee time?

Call the pro shop on 01292 555 010 or email tee@carrickstrand.golf to reserve a tee time. We recommend booking ahead in high summer as visitor slots are limited around member priority times.
